Battle of the Bulge background info
When Germany attacked they used over 200,000 troops and nearly 1,000 tanks to break through the US lines. It was winter and the weather was snowy and cold. The Americans were not ready for the attack. The Germans broke through the line and killed thousands of American troops. They tried to advance quickly. The Battle of the Bulge took place and started because of a German Counteroffensive, it ended in a victory for the Allies. The Battle of the Bulge is one of the most well known battles that took place in World War II. The Battle of The Bulge is known as Hitler's Last Gamble, it is referred to as this because it was the last major German Strike. The battle started on December 16, 1944. "From mid-December 1944 through the end of January 1945, in the heavily forested Ardennes Mountains of Belgium, thousands of American, British, Canadian, Belgian and French forces struggled to turn back the final major German offensive of World War II. While Allied forces ultimately triumphed, it was an absolutely vicious six weeks of fighting, with tens of thousands dead on both sides. Today, the conflict is known as the Battle of the Bulge."
The Attacks were suppose to swing the war into Germany's favor.
